Weymouth

Weymouth

Weymouth is a vibrant seaside town in Dorset with sandy beaches dotted in colourful beach huts, Georgian houses, and Jurassic Skyline. A unique coastal town with a historic harbour, it has long been one of the most popular seaside resorts in Britain with holiday makers flocking here since King George III was a regular visitor more than 200 years ago. There is more sunshine in Weymouth than anywhere else in England. Weymouth also houses the only managed colony of nesting mute swans in the world.

We stop on the way for a meal and refreshment stop. We have 3-day excursions to include Sherborne Castle & Gardens, built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594. We take a self-guided tour; however, room stewards are on hand throughout. We visit Dorchester on Market Day, one of Dorset’s biggest and best markets. We also visit the historical Keep Military Museum, with displays of the Devon and Dorsetshire regiments. The displays cover 4 floors (there is a lift) and takes you on a 300-year journey through military history. The final excursion is to Bennetts Water Gardens: they hold the National Plant Collection of Water Lilies and a Claude Monet style Japanese Bridge, tropical house, woodland walks, and a museum. There is also time to visit the iconic Portland Bill Lighthouse at the southern end of the Isle of Portland, and the southernmost point of Dorset. Portland's coast has been notorious for the number of shipwrecked vessels over the centuries. The dangerous coastline features shallow reefs and the Shambles sandbank, made more hazardous due to the strong Portland tidal race. We have a free day to enjoy Weymouth with so many things for you to see and do, it can be as busy or as relaxing as you like. We travel home with a meal and refreshment stop.
