We travel to Holyhead for our ferry to Dublin, stopping on the way for breakfast in Chester. We have our evening meal on board the ferry and arrive late for our first overnight stay in Mullingar. On route to Ballina where we spend our next 4 nights, we visit the National Famine Museum at Strokestown, signifying a tragic but fascinating chapter of Irish history. During our holiday we have 3-day excursions which includes the Georgian town of Westport, at the southeast corner of Clew Bay, to see the local sights. Then heading to Mulranny, perched on the Wild Atlantic Way; up to Corraun, looping back to Mulranny and on to the Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail to Ballycroy Visitors Centre and the unspoilt wilderness of Wild Nephin National Park. One of our days welcomes a guide onboard for the day visiting the Killala Roundtower and the remarkable Céide Fields. We head to Belmullet, along the impressive coast with sandy beaches, variety of shops, cosy pubs, and eateries travelling via Bangor Erris, on the banks of the Owenmore River. Our final day excursion takes us to the Foxford Woollen Mill, founded in 1892 by an Irish nun. Theres time to browse before we visit the National Museum of Ireland. Here, immerse yourself in Irelands rural past but recent way of life and the Victorian Gothic mansion which overlooks gardens and parkland. We enjoy our final night at our hotel in Dublin and in the morning our hotel provides breakfast on the go. We head for the ferry for our early morning sailing to Holyhead. On our journey home we stop in Chester for refreshments. There are lifts in each of our chosen hotels.
